09-03-07: Editors, Interpol, Kyle Andrews, Ryan Adams, Simon and Garfunkel, Tegan and Sara, The Innocence Mission

It’s Labor Day.  Summer is pretty much over.  This was my soundtrack for the summer of 2007.  If you’ve got Rhapsody, here is a sampling:  Click Here!

The Editors - An End Has A Start

Wow.  Ringing guitars and a brooding voice.  If loved Interpol’s second album, you’ll love this one.  Great melodies, great sound, meaningful songs.

Interpol – Our Love To Admire

Darker than their second album and not quite as melodic.  You have to be in a certain mood to listen to this one, but once you’re in that place this album is great.

Kyle Andrews – Amos In Ohio

Who is Kyle Andrews?  I had never heard of him until I checked Schuba’s website to see who was playing after Sean Hayes.  His performance was just him and his acoustic guitar, which was unfortunate because this guy shines on his album.  He blends synthesizer pop and acoustic guitar to create just the right blend.  The best way to describe his sound is two fold: one, his voice is a mixture of Pete Yorn and Bright Eyes; and two, the music is reminscent of David Grey’s stuff.  Awesome album.

Ryan Adams – Easy Tiger

His best yet.  I don’t care what Rolling Stone or Spin or anyone else says.  This is his best album, hands down.  “Everyone Knows” and “These Girls” are two of the best songs I’ve heard in a loooong time.

Simon and Garfunkel – Sounds of Silence

Gotta take time to check out the classics.  And there are many reasons as to why this is one.  But I won’t bore you with that.  You’ll just have to listen to it on your own.

Tegan and Sara – The Con

Not great, but definitely worth listening to when you’re busy.  The songs are laced with anxious, hurried melodies so you have to be in the right frame of mind.  “The Con” and “Back In Your Head ” stand out as the best tracks on the album.

The Innocence Mission – Befriended

This is their album from 2003.  Just as good their newest one.  Calming songs with delicate electric guitars and a sleepy, whimsical voice.
