Winter 2006 – Dave Matthews, the Shins, Phoenix, Cold War Kids, Tokyo Police Club, Regina Spektor, the Rounders
The best CDs from December 2006 to February 2007:
Dave Matthews – Stand Up
- “Dreamgirl” and “Old Dirt Hill” just have something that makes them timeless songs.
The Shins – Wincing the Night Away
- Mercer and his band deliver with this highly anticipated album.
Phoenix – It’s Never Been Like That
- Catchy Rock-Pop from guys in Paris? Who knew?
Cold War Kids – Robbers and Cowards
- A moody piano, jangling guitars, an incredible lead singer, and unforgettable melodies. This is one of the best albums I have ever listened to.
Tokyo Police Club - A Lesson In Crime
- There are only 7 songs – but this album calls for a new genre of music. What should it be called? I have no idea, but I love it and it’s sound.
Regina Spektor – Begin to Hope
- Yeah, I’ll go ahead and compare her to Fiona Apple. Because both her and Fiona are incredible pianists, songwriters, and singers.
The Rounders – Wish I Had You
- Based out of Norman, Oklahoma. A perfect mixture of blues, rock, americana, and alt-country mixed into one band. No other band sounds like this.
